Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net. Players use a racket to hit a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over the net into the opponent’s court, aiming to score points by making the ball land within the designated boundaries. The objective is to win points by either making it difficult for the opponent to return the ball or by hitting it in areas where the opponent cannot reach it.

Tennis matches are played in sets, with players needing to win a specific number of games to claim a set, and the overall match may consist of a predetermined number of sets. Scoring in tennis includes points, games, and sets, often expressed in a unique numerical format, including terms like “love,” “deuce,” and “advantage.”

The sport is governed internationally by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and features prominent professional tours including the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) for men and WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) for women, as well as major tournaments known as Grand Slams. Tennis can be played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting the game’s dynamics and play style.
